Weather and Non-weather Closings

Winter Weather:

The Director of the Center will make every effort to keep the Center opened in the event of inclement weather. However, the safety of staff members and families will be paramount in making such a decision. The severity and type of incident will determine the hours of operation of the Center. There will generally be three options: 1. Closing the Center for the day, 2. Delaying the opening of the Center, and 3. An early closing of the Center. In determinining which options is appropriate the Director will follow the local and long-range weather forcast, consult with the supervisor of the Town's Highway Department and the administration of Regional School District #1.

In the event that the Center closes all together, during the day or has a delayed opening, parents will be notified via WFSB Channel 3 News, the WFSB website, the Falls Village Day Care Center website and the Center's FACEBOOK page. As an additional precaution, if the Center is forced to close early, you will be contacted as soon as possible, but no later than 1:30 pm. The Center will e-mail or telephone parents to alert them to the situation. If a parent can't be reached, the next call or e-mail will be the emergency contact.

If an announcement of a delayed opening is made, continue to listen to WFSB or check your e-mail and the websites for updates. If the road conditions do not improve as anticipated, the Center will close for the day.

**Please note that the Center does not follow the Regional School District #1 closings. However, we do use their closing schedule as a guide when making a decision. Weather related closings include, but are not limited to flooding, snowstorms, road conditions, and other extreme weather that may hinder travel conditions.

Non-Weather Closings:

- Loss of power - the Center will close if the power will be out longer than 1 hour

- Loss of heat - the Center will close in the winter months if the heat can't be restored within 1 hour

- Septic tank, plumbing - the Center will close if there are any water issues that inhibit the ability to flush the toilet or properly hand wash
